Security Alert: Intruder Tries to Break into Yishun Resident’s Home Using a Digital Lock
In a recent Shin Min Daily News report, a Yishun resident experienced an unsettling event when a stranger attempted to unlock his home’s digital gate multiple times in the early hours of the morning. The 57-year-old resident, who had installed a digital lock to ease access for his elderly mother, was alarmed to see through his surveillance camera that the stranger had bent down several times within a five-minute span, attempting to enter different passcodes to gain entry.
The resident, Mr. Fang, had been alerted through his phone, connected to the digital lock’s security system, which made a loud sound at 4 a.m. He described the intruder as appearing in his 30s, dressed in a black shirt with a bag slung over his shoulder. Fortunately, Fang was able to confront the person, who quickly left the scene. While the resident did not store valuables outside his flat, he remained concerned about his elderly mother’s safety, especially when she is home alone. Fang promptly reported the incident to the Singapore Police Force, which has since launched an investigation into this and similar occurrences around Singapore.
Shin Min Daily News has reported several cases involving attempted digital lock intrusions in the last two months, including one in Telok Blangah and another in Sengkang, where residents reported strangers trying to access their flats. While these incidents serve as reminders to stay vigilant, they also highlight how features in digital locks—like alert notifications, intrusion alarms, and password lockout after multiple failed attempts—can help deter unauthorized access.
Many modern digital locks, like Fang’s, offer built-in alarms and remote monitoring via mobile apps, making them effective in alerting homeowners during attempted break-ins. Features such as anti-dismantling alarms, child lock functions, and motion-sensing technology add extra security layers, while temporary lockouts after several incorrect attempts help discourage further tampering.
For Singaporean families, especially those with elderly relatives or young children, investing in a digital lock with advanced safety features can provide peace of mind. Recent incidents emphasize the importance of selecting a lock that provides reliable, real-time alerts, helping to ensure home security even in the most unexpected moments.
